Socialists and conservatives may be born not made?
I am not sure how the author of this article surmised that the point of this study was to determine that socialists and conservatives are born and not made, I don’t see arguments for either side anywhere in her write up.
However, what is interesting is that the study found that “… left-wing people are relatively more responsive to appetitive than aversive stimuli and that people who are right-of-centre are more responsive to aversive stimuli. Put another way, conservatives are more responsive to negative stimuli whereas those on the left are more responsive to positive stimuli.”
When listening to debates between people on the left and people on the right, I have frequently noticed that the people on the right seem to be on the defence more often than not, as opposed to those on the left. I always thought this was strange given that both sides feel equally convicted in their beliefs. This study seems to shed some light onto why this is.
